In Person Training

For over 10 years I have been running sales and leadership meetings almost weekly! There is a right and wrong way to run them. If your people are dreading coming to your training,  that should be the first red flag that we need to change something. People are taking time away from their day to come learn from you, there better be value.

Whether you are hosting seminars in Xpand, workshops in Xpand, daily or weekly roundups in Xpand, monthly check ins in Xpand, or whatever you wanna call it, I am going to go over a few do’s and don’ts that make these more effective for best practices in Xpand. These are a few factors that you should weave into all of your Xpand meetings:

  • Purpose
  • Value
  • Accountability
  • Recognition
  • Empowerment
  • Love and Connection
  • Vision and Clarity

Purpose:

If you don’t know why you are holding meetings and you are just holding them to hold them, like a checklist, you should reconsider the frequency and whether or not you should be hosting them. Oftentimes managers host meetings as a tradition of their forefathers. Reassess the intent of each meeting, and find an opportunity to eliminate some! Death by meetings can be a real thing in business. On the contrary if you have a desire to get something across to your people then host a meeting with intent, and prepare something beforehand.

Value:

People need to leave your meeting edified. As a leader they are seeking you for a new source of learning and growth. Look for ways to bring new inspiring training to your people. Bring in guest speakers. Be careful to not just repeat the same training over and over. If people feel like they have extracted all the nuggets they can from you, they will then start seeking for other sources of leadership.

Be careful to not always stand on your soapbox and preach to your people. Find opportunities to workshop and involve your people. Run games, workbooks, questionnaires, activities, and get them participating and talking. Don’t make the meeting about you as the leader, but always about them. Work on hitting different modalities of learning: kinesthetic, auditorial, visual etc.. One meeting makes it super hands on, the next watch a video, and the next maybe read from an article.

Be super prepared and organized in Xpand. Prepare outlines that make your meetings more fine tuned.  Start on time and end on time. People will lose respect for the meetings when they feel you or other team members don’t respect them. When you start to get in the habit of starting late and ending late, you don’t respect your time or theirs. Have consequences like wall sits, or pushups for people that show up late. To keep your meetings moving on pace, have a team timer that makes sure they update you on when the time is running short and you should be wrapping up.
